Halifax History Tidbit:
Halifax was the scene of the largest man made non nuclear explosion prior to the atom bomb tests of the 1940′s. The explosion happened when a French munitions ship collided with a Belgian relief ship in 1917 setting off an explosion that sent debris over 2.5 miles from the blast site and destroyed the north end of Halifax killing nearly two thousand residents, injuring nearly 9000 and leaving ten thousand without homes or apartments during a blizzard.
